| Leland came to photography via excellence in academics and athletics. During her six-year high school varsity tennis career she accrued a winning record that is unlikely to be eclipsed anytime soon. At the University of Florida she completed her degree in cell structure and chemistry and is now pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Alabama, Birmingham through an interdisciplinary program incorporating immunology, pathology, microbiology, and biochemistry. Triathlon was a natural progression for Leland. In high school she started distance running and weight lifting to train for tennis. She started competing in triathlons during her last two years of high school and completed her first half Ironman distance race by her senior year. She continued to compete as a triathlete through college and was featured as a student athlete in the University of Florida Alumni magazine. Her interest in photography was piqued during a high school course, where she learned the basic mechanics of the art as well as dark room techniques. Leland displays her keen, perceptive eye on the sport of triathlon by producing images that reflect an insider's eye of the sport and an obvious mastery of photographic technique. Her photos have been presented in national and international triathlon publications, featured in triathlon event web sites, and used in commercially in a variety of sports enterprises. |
