Corporate Health Services

"I attended ironguide’s presentation in May, 2008. I was so impressed with the simplicity and clarity of the message that I organized four presentations for Marc to deliver in Red Deer, Alberta.  Marc and Dr. Ryan were able to take all this "good living" info we have heard before and put it into realistic and achievable goals for all us regular folks. It works!" - Al Poole, Novachem

Why Is Wellness Needed?

Corporate Wellness programs promote better health and greater well-being, reslting in a more energized and enthusiastic workforce and reduced costs.

The average full time worker will spend more than 50% of their waking hours at their place of employment, which makes the workplace an ideal place to promote, educate and engage employees in healthy lifestyle related behaviours. Further, the skyrocketing health care costs associated with the aging workforce are only likely to increase the need for health promotion.

Stress, Health and Your Bottom-line

Increasingly, it is acknowledged that the workplace itself has a powerful effect on people’s health. Employees who are satisfied with their job tend to be more productive and healthier. Conversely, employees that experience negativity in the work environment report higher stress levels. Study show that chronic stress exposure can negatively impact both mental and physical health, reduce workplace productivity and ultimately impact the company’s bottom line.

Companies today who want to attract and retain great workers have leaders who understand the connection between employee satisfaction and employee health and who believe that workplace wellness is a business strategy.

Quite simply, a workplace wellness initiative can help your company:

  • Attract and retain quality employees
  • Reduce disability, drug and absenteeism costs
  • Reduce the effects of a stressful workplace
  • Reduce or contain health costs
  • Improve morale by creating a happy, supportive environment

Business Case for Wellness

For well over a decade, research has shown the effectiveness of Employee Wellness Programs. For every dollar spent on a Corporate Wellness Program, a cost savings between $2.30 and $10.10 has resulted. Here are some case examples:
  • DuPont's Worksite Health Promotion pilot sites saw a saving of 11,726 disability days and a return of U.S. $2.05 for every dollar invested by the end of the second year.
  • Johnson & Johnson estimated an average saving of U.S. $224.66 per employee per year for the four years examined after the program introduction, with the bulk of the savings being in the third and fourth year.
  • Canada Life Insurance saw a return of $3.43 on their fitness program.
  • Pacific Bell reported that overall absenteeism decreased after implementing a program.
  • Coca Cola report saving $500 every year per employee after implementing a fitness program, with only 60% of their employees participating.
  • Coors Brewing Co. reported that for each dollar spent on their Corporate Wellness Program they saw a $5.50 return, and the employees who participated reduced their absentee rate by 18%.
  • Prudential Insurance Company reported that benefit costs for employees participating in their program were $312, as opposed to $574 for non-participants.
