| Background | |||
| Hailing from Calgary, Canada, Dr. Ryan Iverach, Chiropractor, is ironguides’ sports medicine consultant and contributor. Ryan graduated from Western States Chiropractic College in December of 1999 with both a Doctorate of Chiropractic and a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology. He continued his education in the realm of Sports Chiropractic and attained a post-doctorate degree in Sports Chiropractic while working in the United States. He is currently a resident in the College of Chiropractic Sports Science (Canada) Fellowship program, on the road toward the highest certification in sports chiropractic available in Canada. He has been in practice since 2000. Ryan brings a unique approach to patient care. After a thorough diagnosis and report of findings, he uses a variety of soft tissue techniques to address the muscles and connective tissue that surround dysfunctional joints, enabling him to adjust the joint with, as his mentor put it, “…just enough force to slide an empty beer glass down a shiny bar.” He also possesses a wealth of knowledge in general nutrition, sports nutrition, and endurance training techniques and is a certified Trigenics practitioner and Trigenics instructor. (For more information about Trigenics, visit www.trigenics.net.) Athletics have always been a part of Ryan’s life. He played football and rugby throughout high school, and joined the University of Calgary Triathlon Club in 1993, initially training and competed in sprint and Olympic distance races. In 1999 his focus changed to longer events such as the Portland marathon, and in 2001 he raced at Ironman Canada in Penticton, Canada. His focus changed again in 2002 to competing at the ½ Ironman distance and in November of 2006 he competed on the Canadian National Age Group team at the World Long Course Triathlon Championships in Canberra, Australia – all the time coached by ironguides founder and head coach Marc Becker. While practicing in Portland, Ryan was an active medical volunteer with the Portland Fit Marathon program, training people from all walks of life to walk or run their first marathon. He was a first-aid provider for the Oregon Bike Racing Association at many of their events, including the U.S. National Cyclocross Championships. In November of 2004 he was selected to the multi-disciplinary team of medical and alternative care providers treating the athletes participating in the U.S. National Figure Skating Championships in Portland January 9-16, 2005. Ryan is the current chiropractor for the Vancouver International Marathon and contributes to medical care at the ITU World Cup triathlon races. Ryan returned to Vancouver, Canada in 2005 and now maintains a rapidly growing practice in Kitsilano at Back2Health Chiropractic Clinic, working with patients of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels, with the goal of helping them maximize their health, performance and enjoyment of life. |
