If determination is the glue that bonds the forces of desire, discipline and dedication into an unstoppable impetus, then detail is the playing field in which these forces express themselves.
The details that go into realizing success are the tasks to which you must apply yourself in order to maximize your full potential. Obviously the optimal training regime for you is an important detail if you want to succeed, but it is by no means the only one. A proper environment in which to train, a healthy lifestyle and sound psychological profile are all important details that will in turn contribute or take away from your ability to succeed.
How you approach the very concept of "detail" tells a lot about whether you are even suited to the task at hand. Consider the various responsibilities, hobbies, projects and commitments in your life. Those that require a high degree of attention to detail will tell you quickly if you're a "detail oriented" person or not. If you don't pay attention to the details of your finances, you'll quickly find yourself bankrupt unless you're earning so much you don't need to worry.
As an athlete, failure to pay attention to detail simply means a lot of wasted energy and you'll struggle in your training or racing if you aren't covering the bases in managing your time, paying attention to your nutrition, your sleep, your equipment: Murphy's Law will strike you sooner rather than later. What can go wrong will go wrong, remember. So cover those details you can - and don't forget: Don't worry about the ones you can't. That too is wasted energy.
Taken as a whole, proper attention to the details in which you are immersed will enhance your ability to fulfill your potential and succeed beyond your expectations.
