Detachment is the ability to contemplate something objectively, without prejudice or bias. Applied correctly, detachment enables you to pay attention to signals and signs that carry information crucial to the successful attainment of your goals. What’s more, if you are detached in your interpretation of that information, it allows you to react in the way that makes the best use of it.
Detachment is at the heart of devising and then deploying a strategy that leverages your strengths and exploits the weaknesses of your opponents. If you’ve ever heard the term “controlled aggression”, then you’ll understand why detachment is the most powerful tool you have at your disposal to combat impulsive emotional reactions that may interfere with your ability to succeed.
Detachment is also the quality that enables you to tune out the noise that threatens to drown out the core values in your pursuit of excellence. Quite simply, detachment weeds out the bullshit and keeps you on course, helping you to ride out the storms.
