A slew of PBs from all corners of the earth
ironguides athletes, first-timers and experienced ones alike, achieved great results in Singapore, South Africa, the U.S., Canada and Germany. Several showed up for their first-ever events while others finished their third Ironman in eight months.

Even with the Soccer World Cup in its final days last week, South Africa's Knysna once again hosted their highly successful festival. Athletes were spoilt for choice with a different race held each day during the nine-day long event. A number of South Africa-based ironguides athletes went down and achieved some notable PB's.
Emile van Niekerk and Alison Critchley ran the half marathon. Alison finished in 2hr 15min after being ill the week before and problems with her knees from the 16km mark. After the race she said "I didn't expect more than that to be honest. I started slowly, enjoyed the scenery and just had fun."
Emile decided that this was too good an opportunity to pass up. Despite his promise to run together, the adrenaline caught up with him and after frantic negotiations with his girlfriend left her in his wake and finished in 91 minutes, giving him a whopping 4min PB for this distance. Emile is an athlete to watch. He is still a junior and has already smashed the 1-hour mark for a sprint distance duathlon after only six weeks of ironguides basic plan coaching.
Lizette Jacobs decided to put her training to the test. After a calve injury had ruled her out of the half marathon, her ironguides coach Jono took the opportunity to make her work on her cycling. On Saturday she completed her first mountain-bike race over 50km. Two hours and 43 minutes later she was back home relaxing. She then decided to compete in the 100km road race the next day, crossing the finish in 3hrs 29 min.
To put these achievements into perspective we have to look at her 70.3 IMSA bike split of 3hr 43min (for 90km) to appreciate how much she has improved. Very few athletes, if any, take on a MTB race one day, a 100km road race the next and achieve the times she did.
The entire South African ironguides squad will be competing at the Winter Ocean 1km swim race on Sunday July 25. We're all looking forward to seeing how they do and how much better they all will perform than their coach who will be making a very rare appearance in an event.
Over in the U.S., ironguides athlete Chris Huff was 6th Overall in 56min 08 sec at the Central Florida Triathlon series (RACE #2).
Just a little north, in Canada, ironguides athlete Gary Barnes finished the Desert Half Ironman in Osoyoos, BC in a scorching 4hr 45min. That secured him third place in the M25-29 age group.
In Europe, at the Ironman-distance Challenge Roth, ironguides athlete Bill Dobson set a run PB of f4hr 18min for an overall finish time of 11hr 20. This was Bill's third Ironman in eight months and he is now getting ready for Ironman Western Australia.
In Singapore, ironguides athletes have been training hard as well and are reaping the rewards.
Joseph Wong PB'ed at the Tri Factor Half Marathon by 5 mins, finishing in 2hr 2min, improving on the PB he set at the Sundown Marathon less than a month ago! His running is improving steadily through Track Attack - the ironguides Squad Sessions, in Singapore.
Mike Chee ran the TriFactor 10km to finish in 53 min 30sec, also a PB for him! Mike had titanium plates put in his back after having 2 discs removed just over a year ago. As part of his rehabilitation, he set himself a goal of completing an Olympic-distance triathlon. Since getting on The Method, despite his irregular and long working hours, Mike's persistance with training has paid off. His first 10km race was a remarkable sucess.
Roger Chow also earned himself a PB at the Bintan Olymipc Distance Triathlon, which he finished 2hr 42min. A mileage junkie when he first joined ironguides, Roger has been reaping the rewards of The Method's five-system approach. This PB on a hilly course is just an appetizer for better things to come. Roger and his crew head off to Ironman Switzerland at the end of the month - fit and raring go! Jia Yew Boys!
Saul Alvarez earned his PB at the Sundown Half Marathon, crossing the line in 2hr 14min. Saul's performce at his first half marathon is evidence that he is loving his rebirth as an endurance athlete. Saul relishes the new challenges that each new training plan brings. His attention to detail, single-mindedness and passion for hard work have paid great dividends in terms of new energy levels, better rest and sustained weight loss. All eyes are on Saul as he prepares for his first Olympic-distance triathon in October.
Ed Pang PB'ed at the Bintan Olympic Distance, finishing in 3 hours flat. The "baby" of our group, Ed, a brand newbie when he joined us a few months ago, completed his first Olympic distance tri in a very respectable time. He has since invested in clipless pedals! We wish him all the best on his move to Phoem Phen.
Ray Zarbarte raced the KL Marathon 10 km, setting a 1-hour flat time and a PB. Ray's done a fine job balancing a gruelling work schedule, hectic family life and staying motivated to train. His early morning training efforts paid off in Kuala Lumpur recently when he ran home strong for a hard-fought 10km PB. Well done Ray! Keep up the good work, we have a half marathon coming up!
