Pros

Csoke Balazs finished in 9hr 16, 32nd MPRO. It was a hard race for Balazs on his first trip to Hawaii. A great swim and solo bike performance, and still going strong until the 16km point on the run. Lots of lessons learnt and ready to move up the rankings next year.

Veterans

Luiz Topan's 9hr 17 finish earned him 2nd place in the M45-499 division. This was Topan's second podium in Hawaii; in 2009 he came 4th M40-44 with a time of 9hr 27. Two years later and one age group older, he managed to improve his Kona record by 10 minutes. Topan led the race in his division from the swim until 20 miles into the marathon, only to be overtaken there by age group Ironman legend Bent Andersen (who holds the course records in two other age groups).

Leonardo Moreira crossed the line in 9hr 40 (M40-44). Leo improved his 2007 performance by 30 minutes, closing with a 3hr 09 marathon.

Andy Brodiziak did 10hr 18 (M30-34). Andy got a 35-minute PB from his 2009 performance in Kona, most of it coming from his ride after spending almost a year on a bike-focused training plan.

Gustavo Moniz: did 10hr 11. (M40-44) . It was a 1-hour PB for Gustavo, who has done Kona twice. Next step, sub-10 hours!

First Timers

Ron Poonsaengsathit finished in 13hr 10 (M40-44). This was Ron's second ironman, he qualified through the lottery system, claimed his slot at Ironman Switzerland in 15hr 05 and raced himself to a 2-hour PB in Kona. Way to go Ron!

Marcelo Penna did 11hr 35 (M35-39). This was Marcelo's first International event and he had a solid performance in the tough conditions of the day.

Alicja Medak crossed the line in 11hr 13 (F35-39) . Alicja's strong bike-run combo placed her in the Top 40 of her age group, a great learning experience for this talente athlete who has plenty of room for improvement in the coming years.

Rafal Medak finished in 10h34 (M40-44). Rafal has accomplished his dream of racing on the big island. He didn't want to "only finish it" and after a 5hr 12 bike split, the heat took the best out of his running legs. He still finished in a solid time.

Michelle Enslin did 10hr 34, finishing 11th in the F40-44 age group. This was Michelle's first trip to the Big Island and her race was right on the money. The day started off with a 3-minute swim PB, even without a wetsuit. Her bike went according to plan with a solid 5hr 34. On the run it was looking like she would go under 3hr 20 but the legs wobbled a bit between miles 22 to 24. She held on to finish strong with a 3hr 37 run split, which is an 11-minute PB.

Daniel Gill crossed the line in 15hr 31. Daniel qualified though the lottery system and, having just 6 months to prepare for his first Ironman, he showed amazing focus to training and thoroughly enjoyed the challenges he faced on race day! Toughest day of his life so far - very rewarding!
