What makes Rafal's result so special? Well, as they say -- everything is relative. Rafal's result in context of where he's come from is spectacular because:
  • Rafal is in full-bore training mode for Ironman Lanzarote. That meant he ran 35km the day before.
  • Rafal placed 7 places overall ahead of last year's placing, which was also a new best.
  • This year's result came during higher training load, with greater fatigue on him.
  • Rafal works 50-60 hours per week, fits in his training and still manages to remain a true CGT: A "convivial guy in triathlon." :-)
  • 15 months ago, Rafal came to ironguides with an injury he had been unable to completely rehabilitate from. His leg strength and muscle tone was asymmetrical, his training was sporadic and random, and his natural ability was completely untapped due to his haphazard, unstructured approach to training.
"The run was one of the best I had during any tri race.  Jumped of the bike and started running fast straight away - not much pain or stiff muscles - all the Brutality Sessions on the run must have helped...

"Around half way through the run I could feel that I had a long run a day before but this didn't slow me down too much.  And I enjoy the result especially knowing that I was racing safely - fast but without taking unnecessary risk."

Congratulations Rafal - great result!
