Meanwhile, up in the Great White North...
While the 70.3's were going down south of the border, intrepid ironguides athletes John Bodnaruk and Greg Nicholson tackled the dripping wet, friggin' freezing Oliver Half Ironman in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia...while yours truly led the ironguides Rocky Mountain Cycling Climbing Camp in the hot and sunny Invermere Valley a few hours east. Some of us are luckier than others! :-)

John's race ended up being somewhat curtailed - the rain meant more debris and as we all know, more debris means more sharp shit on the roads. John blew his second tire towards the 60k mark and was forced to abandon ship in the torrential rains.
At about the same time, Joel Goralski was getting practice changing his second flat of the day as the Cycling Camp covered the finer aspects of learning how to pace and judge long climbs such as "Radium Hill", a a 10.5k climb out of Radium, the 25k (up to 14k open due to snow cover) and 1100m vertical gain of "Mount Revelstoke" and the Road to Panorama, a gentle pitch up to the ski hill of the same name. Many flats for ironguides athletes this weekend...
Back in Oliver meanwhile Greg Nicholson picked off a few blatant drafters -- he names them here -- and cursed the rain as he learned a few valuable lessons about outlook and preparation. Wet conditions require a little more prep in transition to ensure a fast T2, so plan ahead folks!
And remember, if conditions are atrocious, use a little attitude adjustment to make them just a little less atrocious for you than for others...bad conditions are a way to gain an edge on your competition. Be a little less affected than them and you have the leg up.
Well done everyone - keep fightin' the good fight!
