Shem has been hooked on triathlon since the day he topped his age-group at his first ever Olympic Distance triathlon. Since that fateful day, he has been on an insatiable quest for speed. The question “How to go faster?” is always on his mind.

Along the way, he has inspired many to take up the sport, started an amateur triathlon club, conducted run programmes and met many wonderful people. He regards his top-10 and podium finishes as extra blessings.

His time as a medical student and his Health Science Degree have given him a solid understanding of the Human Body- from neuromuscular physiology to the complex, chemical processes that fuel it. Shem is always curious about how all the body systems work together to accomplish seemingly impossible feats at seemingly impossible speeds. The Method’s holistic approach to triathlon training is something that resonates within him.

Becoming an Iironguides coach was a logical step for him to share his passion and love of the sport with others. As his training as a new ironguides coach commences, he firmly believes that balancing both the Art and the Science of Triathlon will enable him to help other age-groupers realise their full potential. If he is able to continue setting PBs at the Ironman and 70.3 distances, then that is a bonus!
